One out of four Florida households cannot afford a decent place to live:

         - In Florida, a minimum-wage worker earns an hourly wage of $6.40. In order to afford the FMR for a two-bedroom apartment, a minimum wage earner must work 102 hours per week, 52 weeks per year. (Go to NLIHC.org to learn more.)

           - Broward County, the median home costs $222,000. To afford that house, a worker needs to earn more than $69,000 a year, economic experts say. The median annual income for a police officer, for example, is $51,800. (From floridadc.org)

           - In Miami-Dade, the median-priced home costs $237,000, which requires an annual income of $73,866. Police officers there make an average of $49,390—a decent place to live. (From floridadc.org)
