Freedom to Form a Union

Employee Free Choice Act

Some 57 million U.S. workers say they would join a union if they could.
But when workers try to gain a voice on the job, employers often respond with intimidation, harassment and retaliation.

In fact, workers who support a union are fired in 25 percent of private-sector union election campaigns. American workers who want to unite to improve their lives need stronger laws to support the basic freedom to choose to form a union.

The bipartisan Employee Free Choice Act would ensure that when a majority of employees in a workplace decide to form a union, they can do so without the obstacles employers use to block their right to unite together.

This law would level the playing field so all workers have a fair chance to win a voice on the job in order to secure a decent standard of living, affordable health care, retirement security and safer workplaces.
