SEIU AND FISHER ISLAND COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION REACH AGREEMENT

― BREAKTHROUGH ACCORD HAILED AS WIN-WIN BY MANAGEMENT AND LABOR

Miami, FL -- Fisher Island Community Association and the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 32BJ, based in New York City, today announced a breakthrough agreement between the union and the private company in one of the nation’s most affluent communities.  The agreement addresses wages and benefits for property services employees in the first community association in Miami to become unionized.

Mark James, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Fisher Island Community Association said, “For many years I was based in Manhattan, where my northeastern portfolio of commercial properties was staffed by SEIU Local 32BJ members.  The relationship was a constructive one and it is my hope and expectation that we will achieve the same level of partnership here at the Fisher Island Community Association.”

"Fisher Island Community Association should be commended for doing the right thing by these hard working men and women," said Mike Fishman, President of Local 32BJ and Chair of the SEIU Property Service Division. "This agreement is a major step forward in providing property service workers in Florida and throughout the South the respect they deserve and the representation they need and want."

With more than 100,000 members, Local 32BJ is the largest property service workers union in the country.

In accordance with the agreement, representatives of the union and Fisher Island Community Association will not make any further public statements at this time.
